EOTO: First Apple iPod

 First Apple iPod

The world was first introduced to the iPod on October 23, 2001! Before the iPod came out, Steve Jobs, the CEO at the time, realized that technology was advancing. So, he created Itunes for Apple devices on January 9, 2001. Jobs marketed the iPod as the first mp3 player portable to people and can be in your pocket. The model of the first iPod had a scroll wheel with four buttons. The four buttons were a menu, forward, play/pause, and backward, and of course, it has a middle switch for a selection tool. The iPod is of a minimum of 5GB or 10GB hard drive. Another feature of the iPod was that the battery life was ten hours of music. This device can support different audio files. Meaning it can carry different types of files. For instance, it can hold an mp3 file, WAV file, and AIFF file. This model also only comes in one color, white. The iPod got its name because it was inspired by a line from the movie 2001. The person who named this device wasn’t an Apple employee. He was a freelance copywriter, and his name was Vinnie Chieco. When Jobs first announced what the iPod was, the reactions weren’t as positive all around. Another negative part about the iPod was that it wasn’t compatible with other computers. But there are a lot of positives that came out of this product. Since the first iPod came out, iPods have sold 400 million iPods and have sold over 35 billion songs. The iPod has changed the music industry entirely. Before the iPod, you had to drag music files into folders. With Apple’s hardware, it’s easier to transfer your music because of iTunes. This changed the customer market because of the number of songs you can have on the device. Plus, it's much easier to access your music songs whenever you want to. Not only that, but it was the first device that had shuffle music as a feature on it as well. Shuffle play is when you don't listen to your songs in order. It would mix songs so you wouldn’t know which song would play first or the next song. Another impact on our society, because the iPod was invented, was the influential design. The design of the iPod stood out to people because it was so unique. The design has won many awards and has the design in technology museums. Since the first iPod came out, there have been multiple models that have come out. They have been modified to the up-to-date technologies of society.
